The cast went on yesterday. All thirty stitches were removed and his infection is nearly gone. The girls are requesting that if he gets to have a second one put on in two weeks, that is be pink.
And on another note- C and A have all of the sudden decided that nightgowns and dresses are ok after all....here's to hoping that the two year ban on dresses in our house has ended!

Updates
We're plugging along here, with Josh staying in bed with his foot elevated day and night. The kids all survived the first weekend of Coach Josh missing from both basketball teams. The parents on both teams have really stepped up. He has also received thoughtful treats from coworkers and neighbors, which has lifted his spirits.
Here was Josh at his first check-up after the surgery. We thought that the double rainbow would bring good luck, but unfortunately, no cast could be put on as he hadn't healed quite enough yet to remove the stitches. We're hoping that this coming Monday's appointment will be more successful!
Jake is also on an indoor soccer league right now, as part of the Soccer Club that he has joined this year. Pretty cool facility up on Burlingame, although boy does it make for long Mondays!
The girls and I had a fun Wednesday off together. With Kindergarten looming so close now, I'm soaking up all of the daytime fun alone with them that I can get!
Every treat has been COOKIES so far- we're swimming cookies over here if anyone wants to help us eat them!!
Bedtime has had to change, as Josh can't help with reading and tucking in anymore. The kids are adjusting and giving each other big bedtime hugs as we're reading altogether now.

Surgery and Teeth
Josh's surgery went well- up bright and early and done by 9am! He will be laid up in bed through the weekend at least, with zero movement or walking around with the crutches. So...it's going to be a long weekend!
A and C putting bandaids on Dad to fix him up:
Jake lost his other front tooth yesterday too. I can't enough of looking at him with the big hole in his mouth! It's too cute.

Josh with his Boot and Mystery Reader
Here he is! The boot will be his best friend for at least three months we're told, but likely more. Surgery for fixing the tear is first thing tomorrow, so think good thoughts!
We got our handicap placard yesterday at the DMV. I certainly never thought we'd be getting one of those!
Lastly, Granddad was kind enough to fill into Jake's Mystery Reader opening today. I was at school for a PTA meeting, so I only ducked in for a quick second, but it was pretty funny seeing him reading a story that he read to my sister and I hundreds and hundreds of time when we were Jake's age!
Thanks again Granddad. Jake was truly surprised and really enjoyed showing you off!

Day 1 of age 40
Well, Josh woke up early today, on his first day as a 40 year old, and wanted to try the Men's basketball pick-up game at the gym for the first time to start his day. He's wanted to try it for awhile, and why can't the day after your birthday be the first day! So, the kids all woke up late, and we were goofing around all morning until our doorbell rang at 9:15am. It was Grandpa Bill, with Josh in the front seat of his car sitting outside of our house. Josh was playing his second basketball game when all of a sudden his achilles tendon snapped, dropping him to the floor. No one specifically hit him, nor was he doing anything fancy apparently, but it just snapped- as he describes it, you feel your tendon just roll up the back of your leg! In playing with the kids, we didn't hear my phone, so Josh called his Dad to get him at the gym- that is after the firemen and EMTs all came and checked him out!!! What a scene it would have been if I had brought all of the kids in our PJs to pick him up- the girls would have been hysterical with all of the commotion! So THANK YOU Grandpa Bill for dropping everything to get Josh. I don't know how I would have gotten Josh into the house either without Grandpa here to help him up the front stairs! Grandma Lee Lee showed up shortly after with crutches and Tylenol. Josh opted not to go to the ER after speaking with his Dr., as there is nothing they can do. We just have to wait until Tuesday after the MLK holiday until we can find out when Josh can have this pretty tough surgery to sew everything back together. We have a friend who just went through this, and it's a long recovery process for this injury. So, Day 1 of being 40 has been pretty tough!!
One of Josh's special birthday gifts was great seats to the Harlem Globetrotter's game today for Jake and himself. Well, he couldn't go obviously, so Grandma Lee Lee offered to stay with the girls and keep an eye on Josh to let me go with Jake instead. I'd never been to a Globetrotter's game, and it was truly great fun. We had something called a "Magic Pass" when you can go early and shoot around on the court, get autographs from the players as well as learn some of their tricks. It was the highlight of the experience, although the game was pretty entertaining. Jake made some awesome shots in front of the players who were impressed. Our favorite player was a guy name "Too Tall", who is the shortest player in Harlem Globetrotter history- but a great player and performer. Our seats ended up being just 5 rows off the floor, so absolutely amazing to watch every move. I kept wishing that Josh was there in my place though, as it was so heartwarming to see the endless excitement and happiness in Jake the entire time. Jake announced on the way home that his new career goal is to either be a Warriors player OR a Harlem Globetrotter!!
So, thanks to Grandpa Bill and Grandma Lee Lee for saving the day. It's going to be a long couple of months ahead of us, with many adjustments to our routines, but we will get through this hiccup!
Jake had the Globetrotters autograph the back of Josh's old Harlem Globetrotters jersey- we got a few comments about how old school the jersey was! If only I had a picture of Josh in it to put side by side next to Jake!

Birthday Fun
We had a great 40th birthday day yesterday! Josh headed out for a long workout first to start his special day, and then we had a DELICIOUS brunch at Town. We haven't been there in years, but it was ridiculously yummy and such great service, and actually quite kid friendly! We all want to have our breakfast brunches there from now on, including the girls! Afterwards was basketball time- Josh really wanted to coach his second basketball team even though it was his birthday. We brought "Happy Birthday Coach Josh" brownies to celebrate with the team afterwards. Then we had a fun dinner with all of the grandparents at one of Josh's favorite mexican restaurants where he knows all of the staff. Afterwards was present time! Happy Birthday Josh!
