Peninsula Cup
Jake had his first soccer tournament with his club soccer team this weekend. Between soccer and baseball, that made FIVE games for my little Jake. By game three yesterday he was running like there were cement blocks on his feet- just exhausted. His team is still relatively new at playing together, so they haven't quite found their groove on the field. It will come by the fall we're told!

5 Year Dr. Appointments
Wow, wow, wow....I couldn't have asked for a smoother Doctor's visit! As you all know, Colbie and Addy have always been extremely anxious about going to the doctor, dentist, etc, and there are many, many tears leading up to and at these types of appointments. I have been talking with the girls for an entire week about this appointment, showing them pictures about how eye and hearing test work, explaining about the necessary shots that they will need for kindergarten as well as how excited I was to see how much they have grown as they seem to really be in a growth spurt. Well, seriously, these girls were actually excited to go yesterday. I picked them up early from preschool so that they could have an hour to decompress before the appointment and then headed over. On the way over, C and A determined who was going to go first for each step of the appointment, planning to take turns throughout the entire thing. Well, it worked. There was not a single tear, whine or complaint through the entire visit (including the shots!). Their Doctor couldn't believe the change since last year, as they were looking at her when they were speaking, answering all of her questions and quite animated overall. I was nearly brought to tears myself witnessing it! So proud of them both.
Here are their 5 year stats: (Both girls have grown a huge 3 inches this year!)
Addison:
Height: 42.25 inches (46th percentile)
Weight: 36lb, 4.6 oz (27th percentile)
Colbie:
Height: 42 inches (41st percentile)
Weight: 36lb, 4.6 oz (27th percentile)
Jake at 5 years old:
Height: 40.5 inches (7th percentile for males)
Weight: 37lb (22nd percentile for males)

Weekend Updates
It was a busy weekend as usual.
The girls and I went on a beautiful nature walk, as they were excited to use their new "explorer adventure kits" from their birthday. The hike was cut short after about a mile when I realized that ticks kept jumping onto Colbie (I counted SEVEN!, yuck!), as the brush along the path is very overgrown from all of the rain. We'll be going somewhere else for our next hike, and we'll be spraying ourselves from head to toe with bug repellant!
It was school clean-up day too, so all of the kids came with me to help build a "wild zone" at the preschool. Lots of raking, pulling and clipping for the four of us on Sunday1
Continuing our new tradition, we had to go to Town for a late birthday brunch for Colbie and Addy. They wrote Happy Birthday Colbie and Addy on the kid menus this time- yummy food, amazing service and special birthday treats make it our favorite!
Earlier last week Grandpa Bill got to volunteer in Jake's classroom too, helping with a paper mache project. I didn't get a picture, but Josh couldn't believe that his Dad was there! Thanks again Bill.

Jake had baseball and two soccer games this weekend- busy, busy kid. I missed the baseball game as I was tuck at the monkey bars with A & C the entire time, but apparently he hit a double.

Addy and Colbie are FIVE!
Yesterday our sweet twins Addison and Colbie turned five years old. It's really hard to believe, but they truly have magically matured quite a bit in the last month. They are speaking to strangers, speaking up for themselves at school and overall just more confident. We'll be going to their five year Dr. appointment next week, but they certainly seem to be in quite a growth spurt too, and I suspect they are significantly taller than Jake was at age five. We will see!
So, as I mentioned before, we opted to skip the large friend birthday party this year. Thankfully, it has not been an issue for the girls (I'm sure I'll get an ear full when they see me planning Jake's birthday party though). For their big gift, together we all decided that it was time for Addy and Colbie to get big girl twin beds as they have still been sleeping in their converted cribs. Those cribs were an amazing find and still have years to go if we can find them a home, but it was time for us to say good-bye. I looked around at many beds, but I needed something really quite simple that wouldn't take up additional space (the girls share a room, and will forever share a room as long as we are in this house). I found the perfect option at good old Ikea- affordable, sturdy, cute and available asap. My Dad brought down his truck and we took a little adventure over to Ikea on Monday and picked up the beds. Together we put it all together while the girls were at school and they fit perfectly. Grandma Lee Lee and Grandpa Bill gave the girls the new bedspreads that the girls picked out (they didn't want matching!) as their birthday gift, and they look just darling. The first two nights, Addy and Colbie talked for TWO hours after they were put to bed, as their beds now face each other and they can't help chatting away (previously there were crib walls separating them so they couldn't easily see each other once they were in bed). Last night they finally got a good night sleep. So many thanks to all of the grandparents for making this special present happen. The beds are perfect.
Back to their special day- since they stay home with me on Wednesdays, they asked to go to Happy Hollow for their special day. We haven't been in quite awhile, as Jake has officially outgrown it and it is a bit far away. But, we headed down and were there from the moment it opened until it closed! The girls went on the roller coaster all by themselves for the first time (while I was literally waiting outside)- in the first car and everything!! Their adventurous side shown with pride yesterday, running around, climbing and jumping on everything. I love to see this side of them! They both got a few boo-boos with all of the fun, but that is ok by me! Gotta try new things to figure out what you can and cannot do!
Dinner was chocolate chip pancakes, per their birthday request, followed by cake and presents. It was a full, fun day, and the girls were filled with endless smiles and joy all day. Happy, Happy Birthday my sweet Addy and Colbie!
Some silly string fun occured after present opening of course...

Happy Early Birthday to A & C
Addison and Colbie's 5th birthday falls just days after Easter this year, as well as days after a very fun filled exciting week of Spring Break. With all of the activities already going on, and a very expensive February due to all of the water issues at our home, we opted for no real big birthday party this year. I went all out last year, and the girls honestly don't seem to mind that they aren't really having a big friend party again this year thank goodness. I'm sure next year we'll get all of their new Kindergarten friends together to celebrate, but this year, I'm keeping things simple. As all of the family was already getting together on Easter, Grandma Lee agreed to add a small little birthday celebration to the end of our Easter festivities. It just doesn't make sense to get everyone together yet again three days after Easter for an additional party- again, keeping things simple. So, Addy and Colbie picked out a birthday cake at Baskin and Robbins- a colorful yet random, clown cake. They were super excited about it, as they could pick out 7 ice cream flavors to be included on the cake. Our wonderful, generous family brought their gifts to Easter, so after we all stuffed ourselves with the delicious brunch, we moved on to present opening for Addy and Colbie.
Unlike in past years, the girls were not so nervous about opening presents in front of everyone (thank goodness), and they so enjoyed blowing out candles and sharing their cake with their family. It worked out absolutely perfectly. Many thanks to the grandparents and to Lindsay and Jonathan for making our girls feel special and for the wonderful gifts. Their real birthday is tomorrow, so we'll have more family fun tomorrow!
